Weil Wrecker Service: Humble Beginnings With a Lasting Impact

Founded by Steve and Sharon Weil in 1977, Weil Wrecker Service has been a trusted name in the towing industry for decades. What started as a partnership in O’Conner-Weil with just three trucks and a “Full Service” gas station in 1972 quickly transformed when the Weils decided to build their own business.

They acquired property on Second Avenue South, tore down shotgun houses, and built the first Weil Wrecker office and shop. For 23 years, that location was the cornerstone of our operations. In December 2000, we moved just eight blocks away to our current location, marking the beginning of a new era of growth.

Our Growth and Family of Companies

Over the years, Weil Wrecker has expanded into a family of companies, including Pro-Tow, C&W Wrecker Service, B&W Wrecker Service, and Kemp’s Towing & Recovery. From our humble beginnings with only five employees, we’ve grown into a team of over 130, becoming the largest wrecker service in Alabama. Our commitment to excellence has fueled this growth, allowing us to serve more communities with every passing year.

Our Fleet and Capabilities

We operate a modern fleet, where 75-85% of our vehicles are less than five years old. Here’s a glimpse of what we offer:

  • 46 light-duty trucks
  • 10 medium-duty trucks
  • 5 industrial rollbacks
  • 11 heavy-duty trucks
  • 4 rotators, including two 75-ton rotators
  • 11 road tractors
  • 9 Landoll trailers
  • 3 detach trailers
  • 12 roll-off pans
  • Dedicated trailers for incident response, hazmat, underwater recovery, airbag, and specialized recovery operations
  • 82 pieces of specialty equipment, including skid steers, backhoes, and excavators
  • 96 power units, with 130 units in total, including haul containers and three RGNs

Whether you’re dealing with a small vehicle recovery or a large-scale industrial incident, our fleet is equipped to meet the challenge.

Employee Development and High Standards

At Weil Wrecker, we believe in growing our team from the ground up. Our employees learn the towing and recovery business inside and out. From light-duty trucks to the most complex heavy-duty operations, our team members gain hands-on experience at every level of service. This comprehensive approach ensures that everyone on our team is fully equipped with the skills and knowledge to deliver exceptional service in any situation.

Honesty, integrity, and safety are at the core of what we do. Our standards go above and beyond federal regulations, including rigorous drug testing for all employees—whether they have a CDL or not. Paired with a commitment to using modern, up-to-date equipment, we ensure that both our team and our fleet are always ready to handle the toughest jobs.

Industry Leadership and Training

As a leader in the towing and recovery industry, we’re proud to be the exclusive contracted towing agent for nine municipalities, including Birmingham. We’re also active members of the Alabama Towing and Recovery Association (ATRA), and our facilities serve as a training center for industry professionals. We host sessions for Wreckmaster, Hazwopper, and Birmingham Fire and Rescue, ensuring that we’re always at the forefront of towing safety and expertise.

Our Commitment to the Community

At Weil Wrecker, we believe in giving back to the community that supports us. We proudly contribute to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama and the Mike Slive Foundation for prostate cancer research. Additionally, we partner with King Enterprises to help raise funds for inner-city youth programs, helping to create a brighter future for our community’s young people.

Looking Toward the Future

Weil Wrecker Service is constantly evolving, striving to provide the best service possible as we continue to grow. We’re proud of the history we’ve built, and we look forward to what lies ahead. We invite you to be part of our story as we continue to shape the future of towing and recovery in Alabama.
